This position has three key responsibilities which are stated below.
Day-to-day production:
Following weekly production direction, assuring that parts flow through eleven steps/departments to finish prior to shipping deadline on Friday afternoon. This takes a constant hands-on approach and frequent communication with department supervisors to assure part quantities are on track during the hour/day/week. Bottlenecks must be proactively identified and dealt with before negatively impacting the week's production effort. Constant issues include; production personnel absence, process equipment issues, unforeseen part failure and rejection, emergency priority shifts in production, scheduling of overtime as necessary, reduction of reject parts.
Plant/building/infrastructure planning and maintenance:
Responsible to arrange and direct maintenance of lighting, plumbing, current and future electrical requirements and other building maintenance. This includes management of staff maintenance personnel and third-party construction and maintenance companies such as general construction, plumbing, electrical, roofing, A/C installation and maintenance.
Production process equipment / machines
Responsible to assure ongoing preventive maintenance and unscheduled maintenance required to maintain operation of;
Injection mold machines involving heavy electrical, hydraulic and electronic programmable controllers.
De-binding ovens creating heat up to 675 degrees F involving programmable controllers and heat exhaust system feeding a gas-fired after burner system.
Sintering furnaces creating heat up to 3200 degrees F involving programmable controllers. Heavily insulated with ceramic board material and heavy users of electrical employing special heating elements.
Bore finishing machines utilizing diamond-coated boring tools in order to cut the extremely hard ceramic material and finish the inside diameter of parts to within plus or minus .0002". These machines employ high-speed spindles, rotating work surface, servo motors and pump and water tank to recirculate lubricated water over the work surface.
Blanchard grinding machines utilize a diamond-coated disc to pass over the ends of the ceramic part to finish their length and make ends parallel. Lubricated water is pumped over the work surface during grinding.
Centerless grinding machines grind the outside diameter of the part using a diamond-coated drum which removes .001" to .003" of material from the part to assure exact dimensions within plus or minus .0002". System floods work surface with lubricated water during grinding.
Laser marker machine is used to mark the ceramic parts with a part number.
This equipment requires regular and unscheduled maintenance which can include; replacement or replenishment of lubricated water, replacement or repair of water pumps, repair / replacement of motors, air operated clamps, sensors, electrical fuses, replacement of broken heating elements, fans, fan motors, relay contactors, drive belts and chains, and more.
